WHAT WE DO:

We employ science-based practices shown to be effective for ALL learners in the field of general and special education. Many of our learners have a diverse range of diagnoses affecting social development and learning efficiency, but we welcome any learner who prefers a small, individualized learning environment. We collaborate with families to understand and comprehensively support each learner’s unique needs (academic, social/emotional, and behavioral). The goal is to develop all skills that will lead to self-determination and independence. Our job is to give our learners the opportunity to meet their potential and contribute to society in their way!

Breakthrough Academy is the only school in Arizona and one of a few in the country to implement the “technology of teaching”

The technology of teaching includes instruction using the Morningside Model of Generative Instruction (a Precision Teaching learning technology based in Mathetics) to increase a child's rate of learning.

We service grades K through 8 with a current enrollment of 38 students with an average of only seven learners per class with one Precision Teacher. Our learners achieve, become engaged in learning, and develop a LOVE of learning! Each subject and skill to be taught uses an evidence-based curriculum or program aligned with grade-level standards to ensure every learner is progressing academically.

We invite interested families to start the enrollment process with us by visiting our campus for a tour to see how our curricula, academic instruction, and facilitation of social and emotional learning come together for a fun, engaging, and caring learning environment where your child would exclaim, “I want to go here!”

Performance on the Arizona Academic Standards Assessment

Out of the total number of learners who take the Arizona's Academic Standards Assessment (AASA), 50% met proficiency in the area of English Language Arts and were partially proficient in Mathematics! The state average is 10% and 11% respectively (https://azreportcards.azed.gov/state-reports).

We received training and consultation from Morningside Academy, a highly effective and renown private school. We use the Morningside Model of Generative Instruction along with effective, standard-based curricula and together with Precision Teaching to help learners make breakthroughs!

This specialization deliberately moves each learner's performance toward our goal of making two years growth in one year's time.


Structured Literacy

Structured Literacy ~

Our focus on Structured Literacy Teaching and the Science of Reading (SoR) using the Knowledge and Practice Standards as developed and defined by the International Dyslexia Association for the effective remediation and treatment of Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, and Dyscalculia (learning disabilities).

Social Emotional Wellness

Your child will benefit socially and emotionally from our specialty in social-emotional learning & trauma-informed education. We use effective programs that teach social cognition and executive functioning. Everything we do is evidenced-based and proven to significantly improve social/emotional well-being.
